TETRAMAX launches the largest pan-European technology brokerage network on customized low-energy computing

Linking together 28 national innovation ecosystems, representing a total of 370 institutions, the TETRAMAX innovation action on low-energy computing has created the largest pan-European technology brokerage network on low-energy computing.

Participating institutions have agreed to pool their low-energy technology offers on the TETRAMAX website, open up their activities for members of the TETRAMAX network and actively promote technology transfer and innovation. To facilitate matchmaking, a technology broker helps companies search for the right technology provider in Europe.

With this brokerage portal, TETRAMAX has become a one-stop-shop for SMEs and larger companies searching for innovative low-energy computing solutions. The online platform has been supported by workshops and training events organized in the first year of the project, which reached around 2,000 people.

Commenting on the impressive results so far, Dr. Matthias Weiss, Managing Director of CommSolid GmbH, Dresden, and member of the TETRAMAX industrial advisory board, said: “TETRAMAX is an impressive example of what can be achieved if European partners push for one common goal: transfer academic excellence into new businesses.”

In order to stimulate technology transfer, in parallel TETRAMAX has provided financial support for technology transfer experiments through cascade funding. In the first year, three calls for three different types of technology transfer experiments were launched (bilateral projects, value chain driven projects, and entrepreneurial projects). In total, 52 high-quality proposals were received, of which nine (17%) were funded with a total budget of €475,000.

Thanks to these experiments, bleeding-edge technologies developed at Europe’s top research institutions can be transformed into market-ready innovations in fields where energy is at a premium, such as devices for the Internet of Things (IoT). These projects will help Europe capitalize on and extend its leadership in customized and low-energy computing.

As an example, EVErMORE, one of the projects which received funding, aims at developing the next generation IoT processor from GreenWaves Technologies. Using this technology, the energy efficiency of current generation GreenWaves Technology processors will improve sixfold, enabling new applications and opening new market opportunities.

Encouraged by this success, TETRAMAX coordinator Rainer Leupers (RWTH Aachen) commented: “Over the next year we will be focusing on consolidating our innovation services, including SME-oriented community events and EU-wide technology brokerage. We also want to continue our highly successful series of open calls. In addition, we will take first steps towards the long-term self-sustainability of our Technology Brokerage Network.”

About TETRAMAX
